Our program for the September meeting will be a Zoom presentation by our own Bob Farkaly, K9RHY. The title of the program is
"Waves of Change: The Evolution of Ham Radio in China, 1995-2024".

Here is Bob's fascinating bio.

Bob Farkaly, K9RHY, was first licensed as KN9RHY in Chicago, IL in 1959. He upgraded to General in 1960 and to Extra Class in 1968 with the announcement of incentive licensing. He has been a DXer since 1960, reaching the Top of the DXCC Honor Roll on Mixed, Phone and CW in 1993 but lost the #1 CW slot because of P5 (along with everyone else who needs P5 on CW). Bob is a past member, officer and director of the Northern Illinois DX Association (NIDXA) and was a member of the MileHi DX Club in Denver. He was named a lifetime member of the San Diego DX Club (SDDXC) because of his efforts in writing/editing/producing the monthly San Diego DX Club Bulletin since 2009, a task which he continues to enjoy.
Bob’s most recent QTH prior to moving to Longmont, CO was on 2 ½ acres fronting Lake Loudon, a TVA-created lake in Knoxville, TN. He continues to be a proud dues paying member of the East Tennessee DX Association, greatly enjoying the fellowship of this great group of relaxed, southern DXers.
Bob enjoys researching and writing about the history of DXing and DXers and many of his monthly narratives in the SDDXC Bulletin reflect those subjects. Check them out at: https://www.sddxc.org/docs/newslist/
Bob has travelled extensively with about 2 million "butt in the seat" Star Alliance/United Airline frequent flier miles. Along with XYL Susanne, he lived abroad, and held the German call DA2FR for 3 years. He operated as TA2FR from Turkey, China (BY1QH), Macao (while still XX9), Hong Kong, Israel, Brazil, Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan, Singapore, East and West Malaysia (from the island of Borneo), Thailand, all over Europe, the Caribbean and lots of other spots. Bob has visited all 50 states and more than 50 countries.
His presentation to ETDXA membership is titled "Waves of Change: The Evolution of Ham Radio in China, 1995-2024". It encapsulates almost 30 trips to China for business and tourism and describes how ham radio has grown and matured in the Land of the Dragon over the last 29 years.
